To remain attractive for our growing staff and create an ideal environment for teamwork and our project developments, the brief called for future-oriented solutions. With the company running short of working accommodation at its current site in Rain, Pirmin Jung decided to relocate its registered office and headquarters to Sursee.
Showpiece project for construction of tomorrow – internally and externally
The present Schnydermatt Park site and lot adjoining Centralstrasse 34 will house a sustainably designed, six-story timber building for service-sector and residential use. Only the basement car park will be in concrete.
Though timber buildings are seldom found in urban contexts, architect Marc Syfrig is convinced that "using wood to build in towns and cities is a responsible means of combining tradition and future." He adds that the planned filigree volume will enhance the existing residential character of the neighborhood. Working in tandem to exploit the characteristics of wood, Syfrig and Jung are aiming to achieve a high-quality solution that unites various innovative technologies. Office and commercial units will occupy 80% of the building, with the rest reserved for housing. Space will be provided for some 100 workplaces – approx. 50 for PIRMIN JUNG and 50 for tenant companies. "We have been pioneering the design of sustainable timber buildings for 24 years," explains Pirmin Jung. "With the Haus des Holzes, we are seeking among other things to set an example for future building projects so as to reduce their impact on the environment and hence also on the climate." With its integral approach to sustainability across the areas of business, society and environment, the project looks to be a trendsetter. This is underlined by its certification to SNBS (Sustainable Construction Standard Switzerland) and to the Swiss MINERGIE-P-Eco energy efficiency standard.
